As we unrack the bar, set up our shoulders & the rest of the body for the lift, itā€™s very important to take a deep breath in before the descent in order to create tension in our upper body to keep our chest high against the load of the barbell coming down. ā£
Diaphragmatic breathing or chest breathing? Personally I do a mix of both:

You donā€™t want air only since you still want to stabilize your lower back, but you also donā€™t want to have air because your shoulder/upper back set up can collapse depending on the load youā€™re using.ā£

You only exhale once the rep is completed (Just like you should be doing when squatting and deadlifting) at full elbow extension. ā£

This tip, together with the leg drive should create a super strong set up to push big weights from: which should be your goal regardless of the style of training you do. You wanna get stronger. ā£

3rd slide is my 140kg bench done yesterday for a single: Here Iā€™m using these cues. Notice how my form doesnā€™t break at any point of the rep, although attempting a max out.
