🚨SAFETY BAR SQUATS VS 👇 BARBELL BACK SQUATS

✅ Although first popularized back in the ’80s , the safety bar squats are becoming more and more trendy, lately. Are they better than other squats variations? ✅ Nope. All squats variations are great and very similar in terms of muscular activation (especially lower body muscles) but let’s see which variation might fit you best depending in your goals!

If your goal is to simply build big quads and an overall stronger upper body while trying to minimize forward lean, forward knee travel and hip flexion then the Safety bar *might* be a better option, thanks to the more up right torso used with this variation, which could potentially lead to a decreased flexion of the spine.

On the other hand classic barbell back squats though, are just as good. The fact that there’s an increased hip flexion, ankle dorsiflexion, forward knee travel and forward lean, with this movement doesn’t make the exercise any more dangerous. Quite in fact the BB back squats remains just as safe if performed properly.

✅ Which variations should you pick?

✅ Both are great and are definitely interchargeable. If you don’t care about competing and you just want big quads potentially minimizing the chances of an increased spinal flexion, then you could go for SB squats, since power body muscle activation will be the same. On the other hand, you can always throw in more volume by adding some SB squats to your BB squat training.
