🔥EXERCISE SELECTION & HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT EXERCISES

EXERCISE SELECTION & HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT EXERCISES
EXERCISE SELECTION & HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT EXERCISES👇

✳ Choosing exercises can be harder than one thing, choosing the wrong exercise for an intended purpose. Can lead to diminished gains, meaning if your trying to improve your speed by doing squats on a BOSU ball that’s a bad exercise for that purpose. when choosing exercises i usually take a few things into consideration. The goal, what is my end goal and will this exercise help with it. Two, complexity of the exercise, will its simplicity or complexity help my end goal. Three, how does it fit in my program, and lastly what is its purpose my program. These concepts will be further explained below.

✳ When considering an exercise to add to your routine think about your goal, is it performance, muscle gain, muscle loss etc. Does the exercise you’re doing help you achieve that goal, is it worth the energy investment, is there a better way to do it? For example, if you’re training for muscle gain and you have exercises that are functional in nature like a step-up high knee it’s not optimal for your goal. Because of its functional movement the step up doesn’t allow for greater overload like a split squat would.

✳ How complex is the exercise, is the exercise too complex for your goal or too simple. For example, training for strength; and your routine has side lunge with a rotation and press. Does that exercise really make sense for your goal, the complexity of it will diminish your focus from strength to training the movement. Next is its role in your program, coming back to hypertrophy; adding a walking lunge to your routine, but you already have 4 exercises that target your quads, does it make sense to add another while other muscles get left behind. Think about how an exercise fits amongst the others.

✳ Lastly what is the purpose of the program or the training session, is it to train a specific body part, movement, strength endurance. Are all the exercises helping me achieve the goal of that session or program, are the exercises covering all aspects of what I need to train this day. This is what I usually look for when choosing an exercise to incorporate in a session. What do you look for when choosing an exercise?
