I promise I was wearing undies in my before pic, my belly was just hiding them 😂
I wanted to touch base on a topic that comes up a lot. Loose skin. The majority of the messages I get are about loose skin, people not wanting to lose weight because they don’t want loose skin, how I got rid of my loose skin, how I deal with loose skin, etc. Well first things first, I hate to break it to you but if you have more than 50lbs to lose, you’re probably going to have loose skin. Secondly, there’s absolutely nothing you can do to get rid of it unless it involves chopping it off. Thirdly, every ones skin elasticity is different. I don’t have nearly as much as some people and I have way more than others (I hide it well.) That is the reality of being overweight/obese/morbidly obese my whole life.
Imagine you have 2 balloons, one is blown all the way up and the other is blown up 1/4 of the way. If you leave them alone for a week and then release the air, the one that was full is going to be saggy and loose while the other will still be firm. Same with skin. If you have been thin your whole life and gained 30lbs then decided to lose it, chances are your skin will retract back to normal. Mine was stretched to the max for so many years that there is no way it will retract. If you work out to gain muscle, it will help fill that skin up and make it look less loose but it won’t make it magically shrink.
Do I hate the fact that I have loose skin? Absolutely. Do I want to get rid of it? Yes, more than anything. Do I regret losing weight because I am left with loose skin? NO!!! My only regret is that I let myself get so far that lead me to be so unhealthy which in turn caused the loose skin. The quality of life now is incomparable to my life then. I still feel trapped by the skin in some ways but nothing like the physical and emotional entrapment of being morbidly obese. So for those of you apprehensive to get healthy because you dont want the few extra pounds of flesh on you…STOP WAITING!
